The Division of Public Safety - Department of Highway Safety was established in 1982 to reduce traffic related fatalities, injuries, and property damage on the Navajo Nation roadways as defined by title 7 NTC, 254 and 18 USC section 1151 by resolution #GSCAU-95-Plan of Operation, while under direct management of the Division of Public Safety.
The Department of Highway Safety operates under limited general funds and small grants from outside resources (I.H.S, Navajo Nation License plate revenue cost and Program Generating Revenues)
